The Enrichment Room

Starting September 2015, Boston St. Nicholas Church of England School will have a brand new and exciting room: The Enrichment Room. This is the room where children will come to enrich their learning further and to receive further support- whether this is academic or whether it is to support children’s social, emotional and personal needs.  It is a room where the children’s development will be enhanced and where we will provide further strategies and support for not only school, but for home too. We can, and will, support parents in managing behaviours, offer skills to support their child at home, be here to listen to worries and ideas and to help both the parents and child in developing the child’s independence and confidence. Through working with parents and outside agencies, where necessary, it will help decrease inter-dependence and develop resilience, inclusion and independence whilst developing and encouraging individuality. Through this, the children will become confident and critical thinkers and most importantly- the enjoyment of learning will increase and the children will want to learn, will be inspired and will have aspirations to want/ do better things.

The Enrichment Room encourages thinking, pairing and sharing of ideas to enhance learning and to encourage working together and valuing other people’s ideas building tolerance and respect- which is at the heart of our school. It is our mission to ensure that these children receive the very best and to provide them with the skills needed to be successful in the classroom, independently, without eliminating the element of challenge in their learning. The Enrichment Room believes in the Vision, Mission and Values of Boston St. Nicholas CoE School and strongly believes in the inclusion of every child- this is what makes it work.

The Enrichment Room is where the light bulb moments happen!

However, the Enrichment Room does not work in isolation, it works alongside the mentors and the pastoral team to ensure that whole child is provided for by using the specialist support and knowledge that Boston St. Nicholas CoE School has; the nurturing programme here is personalised for each child that requires this provision. Nurturing is integral, its purpose is to offer children opportunities to re-visit early learning skills and promote and support their social and emotional development. It is evident that learning is most effective when children have a sense of emotional well-being, good self-esteem and a feeling of belonging to their school community. Here, the partnership between The Enrichment Room and the mentors and pastoral team is robust ensuring that the entire child is developed and that they are included in everything that we do. This strong partnership is part of the school’s Inclusion and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) provision. With this partnership, gaps are narrowed; confidence is developed along with resilience and independence- all of which is transferred back into the classroom.

Education and Social Inclusion

Boston St. Nicholas Church of England School prides itself on its Vision, Mission and Values. These affirm our commitment to valuing the individuality of all our children within our Christian family. We give all our children every opportunity to achieve the highest standards in a secure and safe environment. We do this by respecting and taking account of pupils varied life experiences and needs. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations for all children; the achievements, attitudes and well-being of all our children matter.

This school believes that every pupil has an entitlement to develop their full potential and therefore offers a variety of enriching opportunities. In this school, inclusion recognises a child’s right to a broad, balanced, relevant and challenging curriculum which is appropriate to their individual abilities, talents and personal qualities and where diversity is valued as a rich resource which supports the learning of all.

Boston St. Nicholas CoE School identifies that inclusion is not only about education, however; social inclusion is just as pivotal. The School always works well together to promote the wider welfare of all children and aim to reduce inequalities and maximise the learning opportunities available for all children, whatever their background or social class. Because Boston St. Nicholas CoE School identifies the importance of this, a partnership approach with other professionals and agencies has been formed because Every Child really does Matter at our school. We ensure that no member of St. Nicholas CoE School family is left behind by giving all the opportunities, resources, capabilities, and responsibilities to learn, work, connect with others and have a say in community life. We address issues of access and affordability so that all children can participate in all that the we offer, provide wellbeing services that support children and work in partnership with other community agencies and we seek ways to value the experiences of all members of the school community.

Boston St. Nicholas Church of England School is an inclusive school that values and welcomes the involvement of parent, guardians and engages community agencies in supporting the families.
